Power Outage in the Iberian Peninsula – LS2 Datacenter Incident, Matinha

Dear Customers,

Following the large-scale power outage that affected the electricity supply in Portugal, Spain, and parts of southern France and Andorra on April 28th, we inform you that this disruption — which began at around 11:30 AM (Lisbon time) — impacted millions of people and numerous critical infrastructures across the Iberian Peninsula.

During this incident, the power supply of our Datacenters was provided exclusively by emergency backup systems supported by generators. This transition resulted in the temporary loss of electrical redundancy, reducing our resilience to a N level (without active redundancy). Nonetheless, brief instabilities were recorded during the switch between power sources, which in some cases temporarily affected the continuity of certain services in the LS2 Datacenter.

At approximately 3:37 PM, a failure occurred in the generator group of the LS2 Datacenter, which led to the loss of electrical supply. Power was only restored after the reestablishment of the national grid.

Currently, the Datacenter remains operational with stabilized electrical supply through two independent power lines, each connected to separate UPS groups. However, the generator group remains unavailable, reducing our resilience to N (without active redundancy).

As a result, our business continuity mechanisms are temporarily unavailable until the generators are repaired and brought back into operation.

For this reason, among others, we inform you that we have already begun preparing the migration of our infrastructure to a new Datacenter, operated by another provider, located in Lisbon. We believe this is the most appropriate solution to ensure the continuity and quality of the services provided to our clients.

Our disaster recovery plans remain fully operational, with data continuously replicated to independent and geographically distinct Datacenters.

We thank you for your understanding in light of this exceptional situation, which is beyond our direct control, and we reaffirm our commitment to transparency and service reliability. We will share further updates regarding next steps as soon as possible.

Should you require any additional information, our technical support team remains available to assist you.

Kind regards,
WebTuga Team
